Disney background issues As we mentioned before Walt Disney has located in Hong Kong, Paris, and Tokyo. But not in all of these three countries the company got the same acceptance, we are going to analyse what are the issues behind this moving. * Walt Disney in Honk Kong: In 2005 Walt Disney the company signed the agreement with Hong Kong to open a Disneyland amusement park. Hong Kong as we know it today is one of the most ctive economies in Asia and in the world and their economy is always in growth and development, and it’s considered to be a major international trading, financial centre in the world and the most famous tourist destination in Asia, also the highly favourable taxation, the absence of direct competitors for a theme park like Disney. These facts make Hong Kong a highly attractive market for Disney to go i nto and for Disney to achieve their objectives. There was a issue about the design of the park because it different than all the other theme parks in the world because of the Chinese culture. In September 4 2005 in the preview day there were 30,000 people, and in September 12 2005 in the opening day there were 16,000 people, and there were problems along that such as people did not follow the rules and people were smocking in designated non-smoking areas. lt;http://coaster-net. com/park-gallery/72-hong-kong-disneyland/gt; Walt Disney in Paris: â€Å"Euro Disneyland† is the name the theme park in France. It was open in 1992 in Paris, because it’s the centre of the Western Europe. The plan was to open the theme park and resorts with hotels and restaurants. They had a problem that in Paris the weather is cooler than America and china, so they put fireplaces were built around the park. The expectation of the number of people in the opening day was 50,000, but the number of attendance was the half 25,000 people, there was a strike that affected the rail transport throughout Paris. They lost around $905 million in the financial year. After all that they had to do something about it so the executives made attempts to raise the attendance in the park so they introduce the alcohol in the park because that was requested by the Europeans. And another way to raise the attendance was that they introduce Indiana Jones and the temple of peril, but unfortunately something happened to the ride and caused injuries so another poor reputation the executives. After 2 years of struggling they had to react so they changed the name of the theme park to â€Å"Disneyland Paris† and they add new rides and games. * Walt Disney in Tokyo: Disneyland was opened in Tokyo in the 15th April 1983 The weather in Tokyo is not that much changeable so the executive build with a glass-roofed world Bazaar area instead of the usual main street. lt;http://coaster-net. com/park-gallery/12-disneyland-resort-paris/gt; Disney Triple Bottom Lines Disney Land’s Motto is â€Å"The Happiest Place on Earth†. Disney land is giving importance to triple bottom lines in all their business. It help them to make a good reputation in stakeholders as well as it will lead them to success. They get a good position in the minds of customers without a marketing advertisement campaign. 1. Corporate Social Responsibility: The Walt Disney Company is successful in establishing and sustains a good environmental policy for Disney and for future generations. By doing this, company is trying to minimise its overall impact on the planet and encourage its customers as well as its employees to spread it outside Disney. Mainly company is aiming to conserve water, power and ecosystems; to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce wastage and make awareness in the public about the consequences of not doing this. The company is committed to communicate it through their websites, brochures, boards inside the venues, etc. Disneyland venues are accessible for disabled people too. By doing this they are trying to spread the happiness to all people. Wheelchair access is available to shops, restaurants, etc. Designated parade viewing galleries are available for them. People cannot take pets but guiding dogs are welcome in the venue for the assistance of the guest. By considering the people with smoking habit now they are allowing special smoking areas inside Disneyland. All venues are under 247 video and audio monitoring. For the security of stakeholders all are advised to not take carry any liquor, hazardous equipments, etc. They make sure all venues are suitable and safe for all age groups. Under aged children must be accompanied by guardian and people under required height will not allowed to take part in some rides, to ensure the safety. They are participating in many charity works too. Recently they made a wonderful Christmas celebration for single parent families to salute mothers. On coming February 3 2012 they are offering a charity screening of Tangled for grassroots women (Press release, on Disneyland official website). 2. Corporate Governance: Disneys second publish on Corporate Citizenship Report; March 2011 giving more information about it. Disney has a principle that the company should be responsible to the society as well as to its stakeholders. Directors are encouraged to keep themselves update about the companys affairs between board meetings. The company management will assist them in arranging and facilitating those types of contacts. According to the suggestions upon feed-backs and company operation statements senior board of managers will take actions. Before that they will make sure all are within the limits of company guidelines, policies, government policies etc. 3. Ethics or Culture: Disney value and respect the culture of stakeholders and they follow strong ethics. However they made few mistakes in their long journey of business. They studied form those and trying to keep Disneyland a good place for all cultures. They assist their stakeholders in case of any special religious needs. According to the information from Disney Hong Kong official website they will arrange special place for worships, special dietary or carry or use of any special item because of customers religious needs, etc. Guest from Sikh community are allowed to wear Kirman Knife-(necklace type, 2 inched or less) and security and bag check staff will help them for Kirman storage assistance. Executives of Hong Kong decide to serve shark-fin soup because it is a favourite soup of the people living there. But environmentalists came against that. They understand more about the ethical value of it and remove the item from menu. In Chinese culture Lunar New year has a significant place. The people of china celebrate it where they are. All we know Chinese new year celebrations in Sydney, Australia is also famous. But Disneyland neglected it in 2006 and their consequence was really bad. They did not block the tickets at the festival season and on the holiday period the venue crowded with guest. Locals could not enter because of the non availability of tickets. It was a shame for the business and made bad remarks in customers. That experience made them to think again. Selection Criteria The basic selection criteria for Walt Disneyland will include a large area of flat expand land which is situated in a city with significant tourism, ready established hospitality industry, reliable communication in and around the world and also mild weather for year- round operations. The city should also consist of most reliable means of transports from around the world. As Walt Disney believed that nothing should violate the visual integrity of his theme parks; otherwise their ability to distance visitors from the outside world would be seriously undermined. So regarding the view of Disneyland nothing can be compromised. Talking about the original Disneyland at Anaheim California Walt Disney explained I dont want the public to see the real world they live in while they are in the park. I want them to feel they are in another world. So, if anyone has visited the Walt Disneyland at Hong-Kong they can see a huge berm built twenty feet high and over a mile long for screening the view of Disneyland from its surroundings.
